Pharmacist Support rolls out mental health and wellbeing resources for trainees

The charity Pharmacist Support has urged pharmacy employers, training providers and pharmacy professionals to encourage trainee pharmacists to use its mental health and wellbeing resources which are designed to help them handle the challenges of their first year in the profession.

Pharmacist Support’s Trainee ACTNow campaign runs from August 25 to 27 and provides support for trainee pharmacists starting their foundation training year.

The charity said its campaign this year focuses on “getting the most from the trainee year, financial wellbeing and thriving in a new team”.

“Resources will include practical guidance, wellbeing advice and insights from those who have experienced the trainee year themselves,” Pharmacist Support said.

Its chief executive Danielle Hunt said the campaign was timely because the start of the trainee year “is a significant transition” for trainees and although it is “an exciting time, it can also bring new pressures and uncertainty”.

“We want trainees to know that looking after their wellbeing is part of building a healthy and sustainable career in pharmacy,” she said.

Trainees who sign up to Pharmacist Support’s free e-newsletter will receive campaign resources including a Trainee Mental Health and Wellbeing Digital Pack and wellbeing support and resources throughout their trainee year and beyond. The campaign is sponsored by Boots and the Pharmacists’ Defence Association.

Hunt added: “It’s also important for employers, supervisors and colleagues to recognise the role they can play in supporting trainee wellbeing.

“A simple conversation or sharing a resource like Trainee ACTNow can make a real difference and help trainees feel supported from day one.”
